Today the daily lives of children are disconnected from natural experiences. The basic fact of food coming from nature is hidden from them. They are prevented from experiencing first-hand one of the most fundamental realities of existence: They are deeply connected to the natural world, they are a part of the natural world and need a constant supply of energy from nature to even survive.

Our connection to nature - a basic part of reality - must be part of every curriculum and the best way to help children learn this connection is with field trips in natural settings to supplement classroom instruction. It is said that one picture is worth a thousand words, and one experience is worth ten thousand pictures.
